ABOUT THIS TOOL

Calculate a receiver operating characteristic curve and empirical area under the curve from individual reference diagnoses and continuous test scores. Estimate an asymptotic 95% confidence interval with DeLong structural components where estimable.

Important: Higher scores are assumed to indicate a positive condition. ROC/AUC cannot be calculated from a single 2×2 table. Normal-approximation DeLong CIs may be unreliable for small samples, clustered observations or AUC near 0 or 1; CI is omitted when variance cannot be estimated.

How it works

Method: The ROC curve plots true-positive rate against false-positive rate as the score threshold changes. Empirical AUC is computed using trapezoids across observed score thresholds, with tied scores grouped. When available, the 95% CI is a normal-approximation interval using single-curve DeLong structural-component variance.

Example: Paste positive and negative reference labels with continuous test scores. Each subject contributes one row. Scores for positives should tend to be higher; the default example yields an AUC greater than 0.5.
